Our Role
Pensions are a multi faceted subject. For the trustees of the Pension Scheme there are many subjects to grasp, but for the corporate there are all of those subjects and the wider and, at times, conflicting strategy issues for the Group.
At present there is usually an imbalance between the resources available to the trustees and those of the corporate even though in reality the corporate is funding all parties. The corporate needs to have the confidence that the road map the trustees are setting out is not a costly march in the wrong direction and does ensure that there is a deliverable outcome.
The first mission for C-Suite Pension Strategies is to ensure that a hard core of data on the Pension Scheme is available to the corporate itself. Without data of its own to analyse the corporate is at a major disadvantage. There is the need to record the core objectives of the stake holders and identify current and longer term questions that arise. This key component here is scenario planning.
From an immediate appraisal C-Suite Pension Strategies can suggest the likely way it expects the relationship between the Pension Scheme and the corporate to play out . It would be the analysis of what could happen next that would then be reviewed with the Board.
C-Suite Pension Strategies can suggest the type of resource that the corporate needs to implement its plans and to participate in the trustees' work. This could mean that the existing resources are sufficient or that there needs to be additional senior resource available in house even if only for a limited period. C-Suite Pension Strategies would look to provide, from its experience and contacts, the resource or access to analysis that will produce the best outcomes for the corporate set against the range of options available to it.
Game planning and analysis of when and how the corporate can act opportunistically as markets move are where C-Suite Pension Strategies can participate in Board level discussions. The appropriate plan may be to play it long, but market conditions can change the story and a corporate needs to be ready.
From those discussions the Board can consider how best to deploy the acumen provided by C-Suite Pension Strategies in its planning. It can use C-Suite Pension Strategies as part of its corporate team or use it behind the scenes for strategic advice. Whatever the task the prospects for the corporate improve with an engaged and informed Board.
